Our Architectural Journey > Part 2 of 3

Posted: 30 June 2025

Welcome back! A couple of weeks ago I began to share the story of Ikonografik Design’s journey and what truly drives us. I ran out of space, so here’s the second instalment, diving deeper into our philosophy and the core values that define our work, building lasting legacies.

A few weeks ago, I shared how Ikonografik Design came to be. While redundancy initially forced my hand, looking back now, I’m incredibly grateful for that turning point. It led me to where I am today, with invaluable creative input into designs and the chance to connect with the people who will use and build the structures we create. It’s certainly hard work, and I’ve learned a lot about running a profitable business, but it’s also immensely rewarding and, most of the time, a lot of fun! More than anything, I hope you’ll discover what truly matters to us.

Our Passion: Building Lasting Legacies

We thrive on being fully involved in every aspect of a project, fostering relationships with the people who will inhabit the buildings, from start to finish. This is a rare opportunity in larger, more commercial ventures, and it’s something we cherish. Our unique design method, characterized by meticulous attention to detail and technical performance, has truly been able to flourish. We genuinely believe this approach saves our clients money and time over the project’s lifecycle, and we’re proud to say many satisfied clients can testify to its effectiveness. This dedication to building lasting legacies is at the heart of everything we do.

People-Centric Design

We’ve come to understand that buildings are fundamentally about people – those who use and enjoy them, people like you, me, and our families. This understanding is the key ingredient to making buildings truly work. We’re also actively trying to buck the trend of consumerism, fleeting fashions, and “disposable architecture.” Our aim is to design and construct attractive, durable, and low-maintenance buildings that truly stand the test of time. This commitment to longevity and people-centric design is all part of Ikonografik Design’s journey towards building lasting legacies.

We don’t have a minimum project value because we believe any project, regardless of size, has the potential to positively impact someone’s life. Whether it’s a small rearrangement of existing rooms, a large-scale remodel and extension, a full strip-back and deep retrofit, or a new build, if it makes a positive difference to our clients’ lives, we’re happy.

To be continued… Part 3 is coming soon. I hope you enjoyed this latest instalment.

P.S. The photos accompanying this post are of an extension project we designed for the seminal 1990s sustainable building, Woodhouse Health Centre. This project even featured in my 1997 dissertation on energy conservation! It was a privilege to return and complete design and building work on this project about 18 years later. You can find more details about this project here if you’d like to take a look.
