Breaking news – breathable plasterboard !

A plasterboard that breathes like lime plaster – it’s about time!

Well nearly…it’s not available yet, but we hope it will be soon. 

It’s called Breathaboard, and while we don’t yet know the exact make up of the product it looks like hemp, flax or a similar agricultural waste byproduct mixed with a binder [possibly some type of lime plaster] and compressed into sheets. 

Because of it’s breathability [ it’s vapour diffusive] it may be possible to use this to dry line historic solid walled properties that would normally need a lime plaster multi coat build up.

We’re yet to learn how Breathaboard works with insulation upgrades, though its application may end up saving time and money. 

The manufacturers, Adaptavate, claim Breathaboard is anti-mould + 100% sustainable [with a fully circular economy building product, cradle to cradle] + fire resistant + acoustic + low tech installation. 

We can’t quite specify and apply this to existing jobs yet but we’re hoping it will be ready to use in the near future. Our understanding is that Adaptavate are in the process of completing certified fire tests, but once done it should be ready to release into the mainstream market.

We’re excited to learn more about this, as we have a project coming up in the near future that it may be possible to use it on.

It certainly looks interesting and we hope it’s a success.
