A Journey into Time [and Sustainability] : Transforming a Sheffield Building ⏰

Let’s embark on a journey into time and sustainability, to a somewhat neglected building in Sheffield. But this isn’t just any ordinary building; it’s destined for a remarkable transformation into a community hub and sustainable coffee shop.

A Sustainable Future for Sheffield

The plan is to fully retrofit the building, adhering to the principles of PAS 2038. This means incorporating sustainable technologies like a heat pump and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery. While there were initial concerns about the potential running costs of a heat pump for a charity with limited funds, it’s clear that this is the most sustainable and responsible choice for the future.

Creating a Welcoming Space for All

The heart of this project lies in creating an accessible and inviting space where everyone feels welcome. The goal is to offer delicious food and drinks at affordable prices, challenging the corporate dominance of the high street.

The Transformation in Three Phases

To achieve this vision, the project is divided into three phases:

1. Structural Reinforcements: This phase focuses on critical structural repairs and stripping the building to its bare bones.
2. Internal Fit-Out: The second phase involves the core internal work, including flooring, stairs, doors, windows, insulation, and the installation of the heating and ventilation systems.
3. Finishing Touches: The final phase will bring the space to life with custom furniture, stylish finishes, and a feature slatted ceiling.
