There are many types of timber framing techniques, methods of manufacture and site installation.

Timber frame buildings can sometimes reduce construction costs as the builder is on site for less time. However, we’ve found that for one off houses, extensions and new builds etc., timber frame construction is not as cheap or as quick as some people like to think. Timber frame is usually quicker and cheaper for larger volume housing estates or larger buildings.

Some types of timber frame systems of build are made off site in high quality factory controlled conditions, and some are assembled on site from single pieces of wood.

Timber frame construction is often more environmentally friendly though, as the total embodied energy and embodied carbon of timber frame materials is probably less than conventional masonry building techniques.
