Extension + conversion - doctors surgery

Side extension to create new Patient Record Store, Nurse Store and two accessible toilets + conversion / internal fit out to create three additional Consulting Rooms, new Main Reception, new Night Time / Small Reception, new Patient Waiting Area and new Staff Offices. Alterations to create Flexible Multi Use Room and additional Staff Offices. Custom furniture design to suit project specifics. Accessible wheelchair friendly environment. Infection control measures to NHS / CCG standards. Interior design scheme introduced colour psychology to create calming surroundings coupled with passive security design, [through consultation with South Yorkshire Police Architectural Liaison Officers]. Fairly complex design with over 48 separate drawings produced from a single 3D model, 27 design drawings alone were required for the bespoke furniture design to ensure the intention was clearly understood and constructed as expected.
Cost was a major problem as Tender estimates came in above budget. Value engineering was conducted where cost breakdowns were analysed in detail and ways of saving costs agreed with the contractor. c£115k of savings were identified and the project could proceed.
The existing building was relatively famous when first constructed in c1989 as it was a pioneering, super energy efficient building, originally designed by Robert and Brenda Vale. The high levels of insulation still exceed the current Building Regulations over 20 years later and the heat required and running costs of the building are still remarkably low. More information can be found here.
