One of Sheffield’s largest doctors surgeries had run out of space and needed help to expand their premises. We helped design a new side extension to create a new Patient Record Store, Nurses Store and two accessible toilets + conversion / internal fit out to create three additional Clinical Consulting Rooms, new Main Reception, new 24 hour Night-Time / Small Reception, new Patient Waiting Area and new Staff Offices. Alterations were also completed to create a Flexible Multi Use Room and additional Staff Offices.
Cost was a major problem as Tender estimates came in above budget. Value engineering was conducted where cost breakdowns were analysed in detail and ways of saving costs agreed with the contractor. £115, 000 of cost savings were agreed so the project could proceed.
Large amount of custom furniture design to suit project specifics. Fully accessible wheelchair friendly environment. Advanced infection control measures were designed that exceeded NHS / CCG standards and were in place before the Coronavirus existed. Interior design scheme introduced colour psychology to create calming surroundings coupled with passive security design, [through consultation with South Yorkshire Police Architectural Liaison Officers].
The existing building was relatively famous when first constructed in c1989 as it was a pioneering, super energy efficient building, originally designed by Robert and Brenda Vale. The high levels of insulation still exceed the current Building Regulations over 20 years later and the heat required and running costs of the building are still remarkably low.
